9 Vital Steps To Take After a Slip and Fall Accident

If you have been involved in a slip and fall accident, here are the nine key steps to take:

Step 1: call the ambulance and wait for help to come. Paramedics will record the conditions, time, and severity of your injuries, which is useful when you are suing for personal injuries due to the injuries you sustained from the slip and fall accident. Ensure that you take a copy of the hospital report, if there is one.

Step 2: record contact information of any people who witnessed the accident; because these people could later become in any way, related to your accident –i.e. by standards, paramedics, doctors, etc.

Step 3: if it is possible depending of your current situation and where you are located at the place where you have fallen, ask someone or if you can call the security guard on site to take an accident report. Ensure to take a copy of their report for your records.

Step 4: take a photograph of the place where you fell, the substance or object that caused the fall, and the injuries you sustained, even if you can only do it with a cell phone.

Step 5: contact a slip and fall lawyer within two days of the accident. The lawyer will prepare and forward the relevant documents to appropriate insurance companies within the necessary deadlines. If you are unable to contact a lawyer soon after the accident at any city public place, notify your municipality about the accident in writing not any later than three days after the accident.

Step 6: save the shoes that you wore when you fell. Also, take a clear photo of your shoes to prove their condition at the time of the fall.

Step 7: find out the information about the official weather conditions at the time and place of the accident by reviewing the historical weather data. Print out this information and be prepared to provide it to your lawyer.

Step 8: get every document relevant to your accident (i.e. security reports, receipts, contact information of witnesses, etc.) and ensure that you provide everything to your lawyer so they are working with all the relevant evidence

Step 9: update your lawyer and doctor about any and all changes in your health after the accident and their effect on your ability to work, perform basic tasks at home, care for yourself and/or your children, etc.

Overall, the things that you should be engaging in after a slip and fall accident is seek medical treatment; report the accident, contact slip and fall lawyer, and preserve evidence of your accident and injuries.
