New Subaru Technology Can Prevent 66% of Car Accidents

We all know that seatbelts and airbags are important vehicle safety features, but experts have now added a new item to the list of the most effective safety devices – electronic stability control (ESC). A recent study showed that Subaru’s EyeSight feature, a form of ESC, may be able to prevent 66% of traffic accidents.

How does it work? EyeSight uses a system of cameras, sensors, and computer controls to help your vehicle “see” an accident coming. With automatic braking, lane change and collision warnings, and intelligent cruise control, these vehicles can prevent accidents and respond effectively during collisions to improve your safety. EyeSight, which is available in nearly all models of Subaru cars and SUVs, is known as one of the most sophisticated ESC systems available.
The study results were extremely encouraging. The Institute for Traffic Accident Research and Data Analysis of Japan compared vehicle safety between Subaru vehicles with EyeSight and those without. They concluded that EyeSight reduced two-car collisions by almost two thirds and prevented 84% of rear end collisions. It was also shown to prevent pedestrian injuries during collisions in 50% of cases.

Other vehicle manufacturers are following suit and adopting ESC technology. Audi, Ford, Mercedes-Benz, Toyota, and a host of other major manufacturers have begun to add features similar to those provided by Subaru. Many manufacturers have volunteered to provide ESC as a standard feature on vehicles, just as Subaru has. Still, insurance companies will have the final word on the effectiveness of EyeSight. If they offer customers who drive Subarus with EyeSight large discounts, that would be a good sign that the technology is especially effective.

These advances are important, but even with the most sophisticated technologies, accidents still happen. Whether your vehicle has ESC technology or not, if you have been in an accident you may be entitled to medical or other forms of compensation. After an accident, it’s crucial to speak with a lawyer as quickly as possible to ensure that you receive the benefits you deserve.
