The Worst Month for Accidents Was February 2015?

When is it the worst time of the year to drive? If you said during the winter months, you’re right. If you guessed rush hour, you’re close. But if you guessed Monday, where people are just getting into the swing of the work week, you’re far off the mark.

The number of reported collisions in the first nine months of 2015 was lower than that of 2014, according to research conducted by Guelph police. However, most of the collisions that occurred happened between Tuesday and Friday, with the highest incidence in February, 2014.

The police collected statistics showing that February was the worst month to drive, with Tuesday to Friday being the worst days to drive. The worst time of the day to drive was between 3:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.

According to the report, the worst time on the roads for cyclists was late afternoon, perhaps attributable to the darkness that accompanies the afternoon during the winter. The majority of reported bike collisions occurred between 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. The highest number of bicycle road incidents happened on Thursdays, the report indicates.

Inclement weather may have played a role, as well as a lack of daylight hours. Whatever the cause, it underscores the importance for drivers to remain vigilant and alert while driving, so as to avoid a possible collision.
